Frank Newman Speller Award

NACE Frank Newman Speller Award

This award is given for significant contributions to corrosion engineering, such as the development or improvement of a method, process, apparatus or equipment, or material that facilitates the control of corrosion or makes it less costly. An individual may qualify who has made a national or international contribution to corrosion engineering through some form of education or works.

A maximum of one award may be given in any year. The recipient will receive an inscribed award and honorarium of $1,000.

Jose Maria Bastidas

For over four decades, Professor Jose-Maria Bastidas has contributed in many aspects of corrosion, electrochemical methods applied to corrosion assessment and materials characterization. He has devoted his career to elucidate the mechanisms of electrochemical corrosion by studying several technological applications in energy generation, transport systems, aerospace, automotive and food industries. Professor Bastidas has championed over 60 research projects in corrosion, produced over 450 original articles and supervised over 30 PhD thesis at different universities of Spain, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.

Bastidas is with National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM) from CSIC, in Madrid, Spain
