Jack Benfer is currently a Senior Corrosion Engineer employed by Compass Systems Inc. to provide engineering support to NAVAIR’s Corrosion Management Board and the Corrosion Engineering Working Group led by NAWCAD with membership from FRCSE, FRCE, FRCSW and NAWCWD.
Prior to working with Compass Systems, Jack retired from a 33 year career with NAVAIR as a Technical Fellow and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Materials Protection Science and Technology Teams cognizant over Corrosion Engineering, Organic Coatings, Electroplating, and Surface Finishing. He provided senior engineering technical leadership to improve corrosion performance and reliability of aerospace systems and components.
Jack has led multi-service national teams in the development of advanced infrared inspection techniques and in the development of nanostructured cobalt-phosphorus electroplating processes. Both projects received DoD project of the year awards. Jack has received the NAVY MERITORIOUS CIVILIAN SERVICE AWARD, the NAVAIR Commanders Award and the Dr. Delores M. Etter Award for Engineering and Scientific Achievement.
