Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE): Application and Inspection course

This course takes a deep dive into industry standards, providing foundational knowledge and experiential learning opportunities for colleagues working across the FBE value chain. It emphasizes proper inspection techniques to be performed before, during, and after coating operations, and includes evaluation, testing, and mitigation elements such as laboratory ring sample testing and coating repair methods.

Learning objectives

  • Review project forms and documents including Standards and specifications.
  • Inspect and test raw materials.
  • Inspect, test and analyze pipes prior to mill coating, between coating stages and post coating.
  • Apply repair coating.
  • Perform Laboratory testing for coating validation.
  • Follow procedures for shipping, handling and transportation.
  • Adhere to Safety and compliance procedures and standards
  • Differentiate between postproduction testing and online post application testing

Course completion

This course will be in a traditional classroom with instructor lectures and discussion. Classroom time will include group activities and case studies to solidify the importance of inspection, proper application, standards, and procedures. 

The course will conclude with opportunities to practice inspection and testing techniques for various stages of the coating application and post-coating process.

Students will earn 3.8 CEU’s and certification can be earned with successful completion of the course and assessment.

Certification exams

The multiple-choice CBT exam is scheduled separately from the course and delivered via Pearson VUE. The initial CBT exam is included with the course registration. Any Exam retake will incur additional cost to the applicant.

Renewal requirements

An approved recertification application is required every 3 years. The work experience requirement for renewals for all certifications is one and half (1.5) years for the most recent three (3) year period.

As you prepare for renewal, please visit My Certification Portal to log and manage your work experience and Professional Development Hours (PDH's) needed. Your work experience and PDH's will be submitted as part of your renewal application but you can input PDH's at any time. Certification holders are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee for renewal.
